Disenchanting on WoW Forever: what every item gives and what it is worth

On WoW Forever, green armor disenchants mostly into dust, green weapons mostly into essence, sometimes a shard; blue items always give a shard; purple items a shard or a Nexus Crystal. Enchanting skill 1 is enough. At the auction house prices (Beta test realm ClassicBetaPvE2, October 15, 2026, 1 player), a green armor piece of required level 21-25 is worth about 15s 14c once disenchanted.

Disenchant, sell or vendor? The calculator

Search an item by name to compare the three ways to get rid of it: its vendor price, exact, from the game files; its auction house price when it was listed at the last scan, minus the 5% cut; and the average value of its materials once sold. Or pick a quality, a type and a required level to see what a disenchant gives.

What each item disenchants into on WoW Forever

Find the row of the level your item requires (Requires Level on its tooltip). Green items give the dust or the essence of the row, sometimes its shard; blue items give its shard; purple items give shards up to required level 50 and a Nexus Crystal above. Counts are per disenchant. An item without a required level goes by its item level, in the second column.

Green, blue or purple: what are the chances?

The quality decides what you get. Green armor gives the row's dust about 75% of the time and its essence 20%; green weapons the reverse, 75% essence and 20% dust. Both give the row's shard 3 to 5% of the time. Blue items always give one shard, and very rarely a Nexus Crystal (about 0.5%). Purple items always give shards or a crystal.

Green armor
75% dust, 20% essence, 3-5% shard.
Green weapon
75% essence, 20% dust, 3-5% shard.
Blue
One shard every time; a Nexus Crystal about 0.5% of the time, at required level 51-60.
Purple
Shards up to required level 50, a Nexus Crystal above. The guide gives no count.

How much is a disenchant worth?

Each value is the average of many disenchants: chance times average count times the price of each material, at the auction house prices (Beta test realm ClassicBetaPvE2, October 15, 2026, 1 player). A single item can give less or more. Purple items show a floor, one shard or crystal, since the guide gives no count. Sell the materials and the auction house keeps 5%; to use them for Enchanting, count the full value.

Items to buy and disenchant right now

At the auction house prices (Beta test realm ClassicBetaPvE2, October 15, 2026, 1 player), these weapons and armor pieces were listed for less than their materials sell for, after the 5% cut: buy, disenchant, then sell the dust, essences and shards. It is an average, so on one item you can lose. Check in game that the price still holds and that the market for those materials can take what you add.

Prices of the enchanting materials

Dusts, essences, shards and the Nexus Crystal at the auction house prices (Beta test realm ClassicBetaPvE2, October 15, 2026, 1 player). The market price is the average of the cheapest 15% of listings; a material without a price was not listed. A name with a link opens its price page and history. Prices move fast around a launch: read them as an order of magnitude, and check the auction house before you sell.

Who can disenchant on WoW Forever?

Any character with Enchanting. You get Disenchant when you learn the profession from a trainer, and according to the WoW Forever guide of WoW-Professions (read on October 15, 2026), skill 1 is enough for every item, whatever its level. Disenchant is not in the spellbook on WoW Forever: it sits in the Professions window, in the Enchanting box. This comes from the beta: we will check it at launch.

How to disenchant

  1. Learn Enchanting from an Enchanting trainer: Disenchant comes with it.
  2. Open the Professions window (hammer and pick, the second button of the menu at the bottom of the screen) and drag Disenchant from the Enchanting box to an action bar.
  3. Press Disenchant, then click the item in your bags: the item is destroyed and you loot the materials.
  4. For many items, a macro does one per press: /cast Disenchant then /use Item Name. Turn on Auto Loot in the options.

Item level or required level?

The game sorts disenchants by item level: 5-15, then rows of 5 levels up to 56-60, then 61 and up. The guide uses the required level shown on the tooltip; its rows sit 5 levels lower. For 97.1% of the 7,579 green and blue weapons and armor that have a required level, both give the same row. 1,771 have none: there only the item level counts, and the calculator uses it.

Disenchanting on WoW Forever: questions

Do you need a high Enchanting skill to disenchant on WoW Forever?

No. According to the WoW Forever disenchanting guide of WoW-Professions (read on October 15, 2026), Enchanting skill 1 is enough to disenchant every item, whatever its level. You get Disenchant with the profession; it is in the Professions window, not in the spellbook.

What does a green item give when disenchanted?

Mostly dust for armor (about 75%, essence 20%) and mostly essence for weapons (about 75%, dust 20%), plus a shard 3 to 5% of the time. The dust and essence depend on the level: Strange Dust and Lesser Magic Essence at required level 1-10, up to Illusion Dust and Greater Eternal Essence at 56-60.

What does a blue item give when disenchanted?

Always one shard of its row: Small Glimmering Shard from required level 11 up to Large Brilliant Shard at 51-60, where a Nexus Crystal can also drop, about 0.5% of the time. The guide lists no shard for blue items of required level 1 to 10, though the game's table lets you disenchant them.

Can you disenchant purple (epic) items on WoW Forever?

Yes, from item level 40, the game's first purple row. Up to required level 50 they give shards of their row, above that a Nexus Crystal, every time. The guide does not say how many, so our values for purple items are a floor: the price of one shard or crystal.

Which items can be disenchanted on WoW Forever?

Green, blue and purple weapons and armor, rings, necks, trinkets, cloaks and shields included: the game files class them as armor. Grey and white items, bags, consumables and materials cannot be disenchanted: the beta's table only has weapon and armor rows, for green, blue and purple quality.

Is it better to disenchant or sell an item?

Compare three prices: the vendor's, the auction house's minus the 5% cut, and the average value of the materials once sold. The calculator on this page does it for any item at the auction house prices (Beta test realm ClassicBetaPvE2, October 15, 2026, 1 player), and the list of items to buy and disenchant shows those listed below their disenchant value.

Where is Disenchant in WoW Forever?

In the Professions window (hammer and pick button, the second of the menu at the bottom of the screen), in the Enchanting box: Disenchant is not in the spellbook on WoW Forever. Drag it to an action bar, press it, then click the item in your bags.

Sources and method

What a disenchant gives comes from the WoW Forever guide of WoW-Professions (undated page, read on October 15, 2026); which items can be disenchanted, by item level, from the beta's game table ItemDisenchantLoot (build 1.60.1.70374). The client does not ship the loot itself: the server rolls it. Averages use the middle of each range, and 5% for the shard of a green item.

  • Average count: the middle of the guide's range (1-2 counts 1.5, 2-5 counts 3.5).
  • Green items: the shard counts 5%, so dust, essence and shard add up to 100% (the guide says 3-5%).
  • Blue items: one shard; the Nexus Crystal (about 0.5%) is not counted.
  • Game files: the skill column of ItemDisenchantLoot is 0 on every row, in the beta as in Classic Era 1.15.9, so they don't settle the skill question; the guide does.
  • Forever adds blue rows for item levels 5 to 20 that Classic Era 1.15.9 doesn't have.
  • Prices: market price of the materials (cheapest 15% of listings), recalculated every 15 minutes from the community prices.
