The path, step by step
Each row says which recipe to craft between two skill levels and how many times. An orange recipe always gives a point; yellow, then green, less and less often; grey, never. The number of crafts is the expected value, rounded up, with Classic's chance rule: keep a few extra materials. Rank thresholds are shown where you need them.

The shopping list
Here is everything to buy or gather to follow this path, at the lowest known price: a vendor when one was seen in game, otherwise the auction house market price, the same as on the item pages. Materials you gather yourself cost nothing, so take them off the total. Quantities follow the expected number of crafts, so buy a little more to be safe.

What can you sell back while leveling Engineering?
Leveling Engineering, you make items that sell back: at the auction house (market price, minus the 5% cut) or to a vendor, whichever pays more. It is only an estimate: a crowded market lowers prices, and some items feed the next steps (bolts of cloth, bars, leather), so you won't sell them all.
| Item | Quantity | Each | Total | Where |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Thorium Grenade | 201 | Vendor | ||
| Mithril Gyro-Shot | 34,400 | Vendor | ||

Which level do you need for each Engineering rank?
On WoW Forever, each profession rank needs a skill and a character level. For a crafting profession, the beta showed Journeyman at level 10 with 50 skill, Expert at level 20 with 125 and Artisan at level 35 with 200, according to Icy Veins (September 29, 2026). Blizzard has not published these thresholds, which may change at launch.
| Rank | Skill cap | Skill needed | Level needed (crafting) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Journeyman | 150 | 50 | 10 |
| Expert | 225 | 125 | 20 |
| Artisan | 300 | 200 | 35 |

Where do these numbers come from?
Recipes, their colours and materials come from the beta game tables (build 1.60.1.70532); prices: the beta auction house prices of October 15, 2026 (1 player, test realm ClassicBetaPvE2, Alliance); trainers and their fees from Classic (cMaNGOS classic-db). At each point, the path takes the recipe with the lowest cost per expected skill point. Tools and recipes with a cooldown are not counted.
- Recipes new in Forever are not in the path: how they are learned is not in the game files.
- A recipe learned with an item only counts if that item was seen at the auction house or at a vendor.
- Recipes learned through a quest or a reputation are not in our data.
- The prices are the item pages' own: the path is worked out again with each new scan, and an isolated listing (far above what a vendor pays or the item's recent average) never counts.
