WoW Forever professions: rank gates, new recipes, camping and trade factions
Yuki12 min read
In short
WoW Forever keeps Classic's professions, with no new one announced, but adds over 600 new recipes, blueprints that drop from dungeon bosses and a camping system where each profession places its own buff object. Ranks also need a character level, according to Icy Veins: level 35 to learn Artisan in a crafting profession. Two trade factions pay Merchant's Favor, and a Temporary Economy Hold can freeze trade and the auction house during a check.
Key points
- No new profession: Blizzard adds over 600 new recipes and blueprints that drop from dungeon bosses.
- Ranks need a character level too: Expert at level 20 and Artisan at level 35 for crafting, according to Icy Veins.
- Each profession has three camp objects (skill 20, 140 and 300, according to Icy Veins) whose buffs don't stack with class buffs.
- The Azeroth Commerce Authority (Alliance) and Durotar Supply and Logistics (Horde) pay Merchant's Favor for crafting work.
- On the beta, the auction house refused listings below the lowest price; Blizzard hasn't said whether that stays.
What's new for professions in WoW Forever?
WoW Forever has no new profession, but Blizzard announced over 600 new recipes, blueprint recipes that drop from dungeon bosses and a camping system built on professions. Two new trade factions, the Azeroth Commerce Authority and Durotar Supply and Logistics, are "a major source of new tradeskill activities". Reaching 150, 225 and 300 in each non-gathering profession also earns Legacy points for your account.
Leveling a profession from 1 to 300 at real prices, step by step: Tailoring, Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, Alchemy, Enchanting, Engineering, Cooking, First Aid.
- Recipes: over 600 new ones, according to Blizzard. On the beta, Blacksmithing and Leatherworking recipes started dropping in dungeons on October 1, 2026.
- Self-crafted gear: bind-on-pickup items for the crafter, such as Sentinel's Sabatons (Blacksmithing) or Wisdom's Leather Boots (Leatherworking), according to Icy Veins.
- Mages: they get a class-only minor tradeskill, Comprehension, detailed on our mage page.
- Legacy: reaching 150 in a non-gathering profession is one of the ways to unlock the Legacy system for your account.
- Game files: the beta game files (build 1.60.1) contain no new profession, only one new sub-skill line per existing profession, laid out like the modern client.
- Two primary professions: you learn two primary professions and all three secondary ones (Cooking, Fishing, First Aid), and unlearn one from the Professions tab (K), Blizzard repeated on October 21, 2026.
- Last beta notes (October 15, 2026): many items made by professions sell for less to vendors, scrolls now trigger the global cooldown, and Draught of Predatory Senses became a potion on the combat potion cooldown.
Our profession pages list every recipe of the 8 crafting professions with the material cost at the auction house prices scanned on the beta, the resale value and the margin.
Do profession ranks need a character level in WoW Forever?
Yes. In WoW Forever, learning a higher profession rank needs a character level on top of the skill, according to Icy Veins' profession guide of September 29, 2026, based on the beta. Expert (225) needs level 20 for a crafting profession and level 10 for a gathering one; Artisan (300) needs level 35 and level 25. Blizzard has not published these gates in its own articles.
| Rank | Skill cap | Skill needed | Level to learn (crafting) | Level to learn (gathering) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Journeyman | 150 | 50 | 10 | None |
| Expert | 225 | 125 | 20 | 10 |
| Artisan | 300 | 200 | 35 | 25 |
What changes for each profession in WoW Forever?
Each WoW Forever profession gets new recipes and its own camp objects, and several got specific changes on the beta. Leatherworkers need a Tanning Rack for advanced recipes, Engineering's SAF-T and EZ-Thro recipes work while shapeshifted, Enchanting vendor prices changed, and a creature can be skinned only once. The table sums up what Blizzard and the press had published as of October 25, 2026.

|---|---|---|
| Alchemy | Mana Well camp object at skill 20 (mana every 5 seconds); Alchemy Laboratory later | Blizzard; Icy Veins |
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel camp object (Strength, in Blizzard's October 21 article); recipes drop in dungeons; self-crafted Sentinel's Sabatons | Blizzard; beta notes, October 1; Icy Veins |
| Leatherworking | Camp Tent at skill 20 (rested XP); Tanning Rack, required for advanced recipes; recipes drop in dungeons; Armor Kits no longer give double ranged attack power | Blizzard; beta notes, October 1 and 8 |

How does camping work for professions in WoW Forever?
In WoW Forever, the Cooking Fire becomes the Basic Campfire: a campsite with vendors, repairs, workspaces and one-hour buffs that you get by sitting or crafting there for a minute. A Basic Campfire holds up to three profession objects, one per player, with a shared one-hour cooldown. The first object comes at skill 20 from starter-zone quests or trainers; items of skill 140 or more drop in dungeons and raids.
Every camp object, its buff by level, the cooldowns and the Blueprint sources are in our camping guide.
Blizzard's camping article of October 21, 2026 lists the skill-20 object of ten professions with its value: the Blacksmithing Sharpening Wheel gives 6 to 34 Strength by level, the Tailoring Faction Banner 14 to 32 Spirit, the Herbalism Incense Candle 2 to 25 Intellect, and the Engineering Reagent Bot lets nearby players buy reagents. These buffs are variants of class buffs and don't stack with them, some areas are less safe to camp in, and on a PvP ruleset a camp is at greater risk. According to Icy Veins (October 6, 2026), the three objects come at skill 20, 140 and 300, they can be traded and sold at the auction house, and placing one needs the profession skill.
| Profession | Camp object | Doesn't stack with |
|---|---|---|
| Alchemy | Mana Well | Blessing of Wisdom |
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel | Strength of Earth Totem |
| Enchanting | Enchanted Lute | Mark of the Wild |
| Herbalism | Incense Candle | Arcane Intellect |
| Mining | Lodestone (not in Blizzard's table) | Blessing of Might |
| Skinning | Camp Chair | Moonkin Aura |
| Tailoring | Faction Banner | Divine Spirit |
| First Aid | First Aid Kit | Power Word: Fortitude |
| Fishing | Fishing Bowl | Blessing of Kings |
Icy Veins found several tier-140 blueprints on the beta: the Tanning Rack on Razorclaw the Butcher (Shadowfang Keep), the Anvil on Gilnid and the Repair Bot on Sneed (Deadmines), and others in the Ruins of Lordaeron, Excavation Site: Wetlands and Wailing Caverns. Blizzard says camp items that need skill 140 or more drop in dungeons and raids; the sources of the skill-300 blueprints were not known yet. The Leatherworking Camp Tent also gives 5% rested experience once per hour, according to the same guide.
What new materials and gathering changes come with WoW Forever?
WoW Forever adds new crafting materials: herb seeds, a new ore and "scarce" resources from gathering, according to Icy Veins, plus Fel Crystal and Stranglevine, which PC Gamer saw at a beta vendor. Blizzard's Legacy perks also mention scarce resources and Elemental Essences. On the beta, Poor Copper Veins became rarer on October 1, 2026, and a creature can now be skinned only once.
- Tauren: their Cultivation racial grows herbs that anyone can gather. Since the beta notes of September 24, 2026, each herb needs a player level equal to its skill requirement divided by 5, so herbs above 300 skill need level 60.
- Mining without Mining: PC Gamer found a Deadmines axe that lets you mine without the profession, for 30 uses.
- Raid material: in the beta game files, crafted tier set recipes need Malleable Essence of Nature, which only comes from disenchanting Hyjal Summit or Barrow Deeps items, according to Icy Veins' datamining of September 18, 2026. Nothing about it is announced.
What are the trade factions and Merchant's Favor in WoW Forever?
WoW Forever adds two trade factions: the Azeroth Commerce Authority for the Alliance and Durotar Supply and Logistics for the Horde, which Blizzard calls "a major source of new tradeskill activities". They pay Merchant's Favor, a currency. On the beta, according to Mamytwink (October 2026), their camps sit at the Crossroads exit in the Barrens for the Horde and at the Elwynn exit in Redridge for the Alliance.
- Waylaid Crates: random drops from level 10 that can be traded and sold at the auction house. You fill them with materials into a sealed crate, then hand it in for favor. Tiers: apprentice, journeyman, expert (level 20) and artisan (level 35). The first one starts a quest worth 50 favor and 2,000 reputation.
- Artisan Commissions: repeatable, 75, 125 or 200 reputation depending on the tier.
- Rewards: seven profession vendors, account-wide profession titles (for example "the Alchemist": 300 skill and 1,000 favor), a pet, a toy, a tabard and the Pack Kodo mount at Exalted (6,000 favor, level 60 and Journeyman Riding).
- Camp services: three NPCs that change every day, such as an auctioneer or a personal bank.
These details come from Mamytwink's reputation guides, written on the level-30 beta, and may change at launch. The two factions are new to Forever players, but in the beta game files (build 1.60.1) they reuse IDs that already existed in the Classic Era client.
What changes for cooking and first aid in WoW Forever?
In WoW Forever, Blizzard says food buffs had "a major update" and crafted food gives "a small experience bonus and stat boosts". Cooks get upgraded campfires that hold five or 10 objects instead of three. According to Icy Veins, cooking adds teas, camp meals and campfire kits, and First Aid now makes healing potions, poultices that cure disease and tourniquets that remove bleeding.
| Campfire | Objects | Cooking skill | How you get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 3 | 1 | Learned with Cooking |
| Journeyman | 5 | 90 | Blueprint from Lord Serpentis, Wailing Caverns |
| Expert | 10 | 200 | Drop source not known yet |
PC Gamer also reports a cooking buff of 5% more experience that stacks with the Cozy Sleeping Bag, a separate questline reward.
What are the auction house and economy rules for crafters in WoW Forever?
On the WoW Forever beta in October 2026, the auction house refused any listing below the lowest price with an "internal error", as testers reported on Blizzard's forums; Blizzard had not said by October 15 whether that stays. Since October 13, 2026, a Temporary Economy Hold can restrict trade, mail, guild banks and the auction house while gold buying is checked, and is lifted automatically if the suspicion is false.
- No undercutting on the beta: you list at the price of the next auction. Our auction house guide explains how to sell with this rule.
- Auction house window: the beta notes of October 15, 2026 added an equippable-level column and the stats of items with suffixes, without mentioning the undercut rule.
- Gold buyers punished: Blizzard "will increasingly take action against buyers' accounts", with penalties from gold removal to permanent account closure, and a warning appears when you trade with a stranger.
- No WoW Token: Blizzard developers said there are no plans for one in Forever, as reported by MassivelyOP (September 14, 2026).
- Vendors that cap prices: a black-market vendor in Riverglades, Mister Graphed, sells rare materials such as Fel Crystal and Stranglevine for 20 gold or more (PC Gamer, beta, September 28, 2026), and a vendor sells Black Lotus to cap its price, developers said at PAX Aus (JudgeHype, October 13, 2026).
To see what your crafts are worth, our auction house prices show a full scan made on the beta, and our profession pages turn those prices into a material cost, a resale value and a margin for every recipe. Auction house listing rules and price caps are not published by Blizzard.
Which Legacy perks help professions in WoW Forever?
The WoW Forever Legacy system has 18 profession challenges, one point each for your account at 150, 225 and 300 in every non-gathering profession, and a Professions tree of seven perks. Bountiful Harvest gives extra scarce resources, Performance bonus raises Merchant's Favor, and Dedicated Study grants free Elemental Essences on a daily cooldown once your professions reach 300. Field Guide and Reagent Economy help with camping.
| Perk | Tree | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Bountiful Harvest | Professions | Extra scarce resources |
| Performance bonus | Professions | More Merchant's Favor: a 5, 10 or 15% chance of double favor by rank, on the beta according to Mamytwink |
| Dedicated Study | Professions | Free Elemental Essences, daily cooldown, once your professions have all reached 300 |
| Working Overtime, Bartering, Master Chef, Luremaster | Professions | Named by Blizzard; Lockpicking counts as a class tradeskill for Working Overtime; since the October 15 beta notes, Bartering no longer discounts training or repairs |
| Field Guide | Adventure | Shorter camping cooldown |
| Reagent Economy | Resourcefulness | Tier-1 camp objects need no materials, and class reagents no longer need buying |
Each character can spend up to 16 Legacy points at launch. Plan yours with our Legacy planner and the Legacy guide.
