How to make gold at the auction house in WoW Forever, the honest way
Yuki6 min read
In short
On Forever, auction house gold comes from buying below value and selling at a fair price: crafts with a positive margin, vendor items that resell higher, underpriced auctions and disenchanting. Watch out for a rule observed on the beta: you can't list cheaper than the lowest auction. And never buy or sell gold for real money: it is forbidden.
Key points
- On the beta, listings cheaper than the lowest auction were refused (“Internal error”).
- So you don't undercut: you list at the next price and you let time work.
- Four sources of gold: crafts, underpriced auctions, vendor items, disenchanting.
- A craft is only profitable if its sale price beats the cost of its materials at today's prices.
- Addons show prices; buying and listing always need your click.
Can you undercut at the auction house on Forever?
You can't undercut on the WoW Forever beta: the auction house refused any listing cheaper than the lowest one already posted, with an “Internal error” message. Blizzard hasn't announced this rule; it was observed in game in October 2026 and may change at launch. So you list at the price of the next auction and let time work: buyers take the cheapest ones first.
What it means for you: you no longer win a sale by being one copper cheaper. You list at the price of the next auction, and buyers take the cheapest ones first.
Other testers reported the same “Internal error” on Blizzard's beta forums; as of October 15, 2026, Blizzard had not said whether it is intended. Its last beta notes, on October 15, added an equippable-level column and the stats of items with suffixes to the auction house without mentioning the rule, and the beta closed on October 23, 2026.
How do you make gold at the auction house on Forever?
On WoW Forever, you make gold at the auction house by buying below value and selling at a fair price. Four sources give you that margin: crafts that sell for more than their materials at today's prices, underpriced auctions, vendor items worth more at the auction house than at the merchant, and disenchanting when the materials are worth more than the item.
| Source | What to look at |
|---|---|
| Crafts | Sale price minus the cost of the materials |
| Underpriced auctions | Gap between the listing and the usual price |
| Vendor items | NPC price versus auction house price |
| Disenchanting | Value of the materials versus the item's price |
Crafts
A craft makes gold when what you sell is worth more than what you put in. The trap is to count the materials at the price you once paid instead of today's price: if you could sell your materials for more than the finished item, crafting loses money.
Underpriced auctions
Some players sell in a hurry, or don't know the value of what they found. An auction far below the usual price of an item is a deal, as long as that usual price is solid, built on several scans and not on a single listing.
Vendor items
Some items sold by NPC vendors, like rare recipes or reagents, are worth more at the auction house than at the merchant. Buy them from the NPC, resell them to the players who don't want to travel.
Disenchanting
With Enchanting, a green item can be worth more as dust and essences than as an item. Compare before you sell.
How often should you scan the auction house?
Scan the WoW Forever auction house each time you open it: prices move all day, and an item's usual price is only solid when it is built on several scans, not on a single listing. An auction house addon with a full scan, such as Auctionator, gives you the prices of every item at once. Compare with our auction house prices page.
How do you level a profession for less gold?
To level a profession for less on WoW Forever, craft at each step the recipe that costs the least at today's auction house prices, until it turns gray. That cheapest path changes as prices move. Each profession page has a leveling path that picks the cheapest recipe, step by step. Count your materials at today's price, not at the price you once paid.
What is forbidden when you make gold on Forever?
On WoW Forever, buying or selling gold, items or services for real money is forbidden by Blizzard, and gold sellers' customers get banned too. Automation is not allowed either: buying and listing at the auction house always require your click, and the game blocks an addon that would buy or sell on its own. Blizzard's add-on policy also requires addons to be free, with no premium version.
- No real money: buying or selling gold, items or services for real money is forbidden by Blizzard, and gold sellers' customers get banned too.
- No automation: buying and listing require your click. An addon that would buy or sell on its own is not allowed, and the game blocks it.
- Free addons: Blizzard's add-on policy requires addons to be free, with no premium version.
- Economy hold: since October 13, 2026, Blizzard can put an account under a Temporary Economy Hold that restricts trade, mail, guild banks and the auction house while a suspicion of gold trading is checked; it is lifted automatically if the suspicion is false. A warning also appears when you trade with a stranger.

Frequently asked questions
Can you undercut at the auction house on Forever?
On the beta, no: listings cheaper than the lowest auction were refused with an “Internal error”. Blizzard hasn't announced the rule, so it may change at launch.
What is the best way to make gold at the auction house?
Buy below value and sell at a fair price: profitable crafts, underpriced auctions, vendor items that resell higher, and disenchanting when the materials are worth more than the item.
How do I know if a craft is profitable?
Compare its sale price with the cost of its materials at today's auction prices, not at the price you paid. The profession pages of this site show this margin for every recipe.
Is it allowed to buy gold?
No. Buying or selling gold, items or services for real money is forbidden by Blizzard and can get your account banned.
How does flipping work at the auction house on Forever?
You buy an auction listed well below its usual price, then resell it at a fair price. On the beta you couldn't list below the lowest auction, so you resell at the price of the next auction, not one copper under it.
Do I need an auction house addon?
No, the game's auction house is enough to buy and sell. An addon such as Auctionator saves time: it scans the whole auction house and shows prices in item tooltips.
How can I check WoW Forever auction house prices without logging in?
Forever has no public auction house API, so no website can read the prices directly. Our auction house prices page shows a full scan made in game on the beta, by a single player for now.
