WoW Forever dungeons: the nine new dungeons, their levels, bosses and entrances
Yuki13 min read
In short
WoW Forever launches on November 4, 2026 with nine new five-player dungeons, from the Hall of Thanes beneath Ironforge (levels 13-18) to the Shaper's Terrace in Un'Goro Crater (58-60), according to Blizzard's overview of October 20. Four were playable on the beta: Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Excavation Site: Wetlands and City of Dalaran, which needs an attunement. The Classic dungeons stay, and dungeons count for three Legacy points.
Key points
- Nine new five-player dungeons at launch, from level 13 to 60; four were playable on the beta, five stayed hidden.
- Blizzard's levels: Hall of Thanes 13-18, Ruins of Lordaeron 15-20, Excavation Site 24-29, City of Dalaran 28-33, up to the Shaper's Terrace at 58-60.
- The City of Dalaran dungeon needs a faction attunement and is entered through the sewers; on the beta it hid a secret boss.
- Classic dungeons stay, with reviewed loot, blue boss uniques and Blueprints for camp objects.
- Dungeons give three Legacy points: every dungeon of the 15-25, 26-45 and 46-60 brackets.
What are the nine new dungeons in WoW Forever?
WoW Forever adds nine new five-player dungeons at launch, according to Blizzard: the Hall of Thanes, the Ruins of Lordaeron, the Excavation Site: Wetlands, the City of Dalaran, the Drowned City, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold and the Shaper's Terrace. Blizzard's level brackets, repeated in its dungeon overview of October 20, 2026, go from 13-18 for the Hall of Thanes to 58-60 for the Shaper's Terrace.
| Dungeon | Levels | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Hall of Thanes | 13-18 | Beneath Ironforge, Dun Morogh |
| Ruins of Lordaeron | 15-20 | The ruined city above the Undercity, Tirisfal Glades |
| Excavation Site: Wetlands | 24-29 (26-31 in the October 1 beta notes) | Wetlands, above Whelgar's Excavation, near Thelgen Rock and Dun Algaz |
| City of Dalaran | 28-33 | Alterac Mountains, through the sewers |
| The Drowned City | 35-40 | Off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale, west of Grom'gol |
| Krol'dok Stronghold | 40-45 | Riverglades |
| Alcaz Prison | 48-53 | Alcaz Island, Dustwallow Marsh |
| Blackmaw Hold | 55-60 | Azshara, beyond a long-sealed gate |
| The Shaper's Terrace | 58-60 | The northern hills of Un'Goro Crater |
On the beta, October 2026, the Group Finder suggested slightly wider ranges for the four playable dungeons (game data, build 1.60.1.70532): Hall of Thanes 13-20, Ruins of Lordaeron 15-22, Excavation Site: Wetlands 26-33 and City of Dalaran 28-35. Blizzard's dungeon overview of October 20, 2026 repeats Kaivax's levels, including 24-29 for the Excavation Site: take them as the reference and the beta ranges as a hint.
The same overview describes the five dungeons that were not on the beta:
- The Drowned City: sunken troll ruins have risen, held by trolls and naga; you dive underwater to get in, and in this open-air dungeon a storm builds before the last fight.
- Krol'dok Stronghold: ogre outrunners kidnap travelers in the Riverglades, and their trail leads to a fortress where strange chanting starts after nightfall. Icy Veins' BlizzCon coverage called it a "massive outdoor Ogre dungeon".
- Alcaz Prison: the Defias Brotherhood and naga fight inside a prison whose high-ranking prisoners include King Varian Wrynn.
- Blackmaw Hold: a furbolg city where the Blackmaw clan fights a spreading corruption, with several routes and bosses, that may lead farther below Azeroth. Blizzard's raid overview lists it as one of the entrances of the Barrow Deeps raid.
- The Shaper's Terrace: an ancient titan facility where you bring power crystals gathered in Un'Goro Crater to its consoles.
In the beta game files, Blackmaw Hold takes the place of Azshara's old Timbermaw Hold area, Krol'dok Stronghold's exterior sits in the new Riverglades zone and the Shaper's Terrace is a new area of Un'Goro Crater.
Which bosses are in the new WoW Forever dungeons?
The beta game files of WoW Forever (build 1.60.1) name the bosses of the four dungeons playable on the beta: 4 in the Hall of Thanes, 7 in the Ruins of Lordaeron, 4 in the Excavation Site: Wetlands and 9 in the City of Dalaran, one of them secret. The bosses of the five other dungeons are encrypted in the files.
| Dungeon | Bosses | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hall of Thanes | Faldrim Anvilmar, Infurnus, Plunder, Durgen Dirgehammer | Icy Veins lists Magmatus instead of Infurnus |
| Ruins of Lordaeron | Witherfang, The Abandoned, The Butcher, Rath'mael, Lordaeron Captain, Viktor the Vile, Bjork | The Lordaeron Captain is a rare boss that only the Horde can kill (Icy Veins) |
| Excavation Site: Wetlands | Saltspine, Shadetooth, Highland Horror, Relic Guardian | Highland Horror is an Alliance-only quest boss with no loot (Method) |
| City of Dalaran | Arcane Anomaly, Fel Ancient, Mana Devourer, Mana Elemental, Unstable Sentinel, Shade of the Archmage, Lyn the Ignored, Atrexis the Grave Knight, Mana Wraith | Lyn the Ignored is a secret boss (see below) |
Every dungeon has its own page with its bosses in order, entrance zone, entry level and Legacy challenge: all WoW Forever dungeons by level. Tank, pull, wipe, LFM: the words of a dungeon group are in our WoW glossary.
For the Drowned City, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold and the Shaper's Terrace, Icy Veins counted 34 encrypted boss encounters in the beta files, and Blizzard's overview of October 20 names none of them. Don't count on an in-game guide either: in Blizzard's official podcast, the developers said there would probably be no maps and that players would discover the bosses themselves (JudgeHype summary), and Josh Greenfield told MMORPG.com: "There's not going to be a dungeon journal telling you what to do right at first" (Method).
How do you unlock the City of Dalaran dungeon?
The City of Dalaran dungeon of WoW Forever, in the Alterac Mountains, needs an attunement that starts differently for each faction, according to Blizzard's dungeon overview of October 20, 2026: the Alliance begins with "An Alarming Request" from Emissary Jacques in Southshore, the Horde with "Key to the City" and "Prison Break-In" from Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill. Groups enter through the sewers.
- Alliance: "An Alarming Request" from Emissary Jacques in Southshore (Blizzard), then, on the beta, "Heart of Disruption" (Method).
- Horde: "Key to the City" and "Prison Break-In" from Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill (Blizzard). On the beta, Method listed "Key to the City", "Dalaran Patrols", "Blood in the Streets", then "Heart of Disruption", the same last quest as the Alliance. On the beta, the dungeon also needed the Dalaran Sewer Key (Method).
- Secret boss, Lyn the Ignored (beta, October 2026): loot the Black Tome in Archmage Arugal's room in Shadowfang Keep, use it at the ley-line focus in the Ambermill town hall (Silverpine Forest) to get the Tome of Dalaran, then, past Atrexis the Grave Knight, go straight on through the sewers to a purple rune and use the tome. It has a 3-minute cooldown and is not consumed (JudgeHype, citing Wowhead).
The dungeon opened on the beta on October 8, 2026. According to JudgeHype's summary of the official podcast, Dalaran has 9 bosses but is smaller than the other new dungeons, and separate faction entrances were planned, then dropped. Method gives a clear time of 30 to 40 minutes. The city itself is now closed to the Horde: since the October 15 beta notes, "Members of the Horde are no longer welcome in Dalaran under any circumstances and will be attacked on sight", and the Horde questline for the Dalaran Sewer Key no longer opens the city in the open world, without changing access to the dungeon. JudgeHype, citing Wowhead, had reported on October 9 that the Horde could enter the city after the questline.
Do WoW Forever dungeons have lockouts or faction limits?
Blizzard calls all nine new WoW Forever dungeons five-player dungeons in its overview of October 20, 2026, and the beta files give them the same lockout rows as Classic dungeons; Blizzard has not published lockout rules. Groups never mix rulesets, factions stay separate, and the developers said some dungeons are reserved to one faction (official podcast, JudgeHype summary).
- Group size: Blizzard lists the nine as five-player dungeons. The beta files had one hidden map set to 10 players with a minimum level of 40, the start of Krol'dok Stronghold's bracket, but Blizzard's overview lists Krol'dok among the five-player dungeons too.
- Lockouts: the files give each new dungeon the same "Normal" lockout mechanism that Classic Era uses for its dungeons. Blizzard has published nothing else about dungeon lockouts.
- Factions: Blizzard's overview says the Alliance reaches the Hall of Thanes easily from its capital while Horde groups must travel into Alliance land, and the reverse for the Ruins of Lordaeron, above the Undercity. Its dungeon video presents the Hall of Thanes as an Alliance dungeon, similar to Ragefire Chasm for the Horde (JudgeHype). Icy Veins counts 5 quests in the Hall of Thanes (3 Alliance-only), 10 in the Ruins of Lordaeron (6 Horde, 4 Alliance, all Alliance quests starting inside) and 8 in the Excavation Site (5 Alliance, 3 Horde).
- Rulesets: players of different rulesets (Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, and Roleplay-PvP, added for launch on October 22) never group together, and factions stay separate (Blizzard).
What happens to the Classic dungeons in WoW Forever?
The Classic dungeons stay in WoW Forever: the beta Group Finder (October 2026) lists all of them, from Ragefire Chasm (13-18) to Upper Blackrock Spire (59-60, 10 players). Blizzard re-examined every dungeon drop and made unique boss items blue, some Classic bosses drop Blueprints for camp objects on the beta, and the beta files add a new Deadmines boss, Miner Johnson.
| Dungeon | Suggested levels |
|---|---|
| Ragefire Chasm | 13-18 |
| Wailing Caverns | 15-24 |
| Deadmines | 17-26 |
| Shadowfang Keep | 20-30 |
| Blackfathom Deeps | 24-32 |
| Stormwind Stockades | 24-32 |
| Gnomeregan | 29-38 |
| Razorfen Kraul | 29-38 |
| Scarlet Monastery: Graveyard | 30-38 |
| Scarlet Monastery: Library | 33-41 |
| Scarlet Monastery: Armory | 36-44 |
| Razorfen Downs | 37-46 |
| Scarlet Monastery: Cathedral | 38-46 |
| Uldaman | 41-51 |
| Zul'Farrak | 44-54 |
| Maraudon | 46-55 |
| Sunken Temple | 50-60 |
| Blackrock Depths | 52-60 |
| Dire Maul: East | 54-60 |
| Lower Blackrock Spire | 55-60 |
| Dire Maul: West and North | 56-60 |
| Stratholme | 58-60 |
| Scholomance | 58-60 |
| Upper Blackrock Spire (10 players) | 59-60 |
Other changes seen on the beta: Blueprints drop from Gilnid, Sneed and Cookie in the Deadmines, from Razorclaw the Butcher and Commander Springvale in Shadowfang Keep and from Lady Anacondra and Lord Serpentis in the Wailing Caverns (Icy Veins); the full Embrace of the Viper set from the Wailing Caverns turns the Druid cat form into a snake (Method); and the Sunken Temple gets a new set of eight 5-player boss rows in the game files, with no explanation yet. JudgeHype, reporting Blizzard's dungeon video, says almost all original dungeons were revised, mainly their rewards and quest experience.
Blizzard's October 1 beta notes opened Razorfen Downs and Uldaman when the beta's level cap rose to 30.
What loot and XP do WoW Forever dungeons give?
WoW Forever dungeons give blue unique boss items, Blueprints for camp objects and transmog appearances for the whole group, according to Blizzard. Their XP was retuned on the beta: dungeon quests lost 50% of their extra XP on October 1, creature XP rose about 20% on October 8, and Blizzard wants dungeon leveling "very close, if not equal to" optimal questing.
- Loot: every dungeon drop was re-examined, unique dungeon boss items are now blue and set bonuses were improved (Blizzard).
- Transmog: a bind-on-pickup green or blue dungeon drop gives its appearance to every eligible looter (Blizzard).
- Blueprints: advanced camp objects come from Blueprint recipes dropped by specific dungeon bosses (Blizzard). On the beta, Rath'mael drops the Fermenter and Arcane Salvager Blueprints, Shadetooth the Greenhouse and the Relic Guardian the Rock Garden (Icy Veins).
- Recipes: Blacksmithing and Leatherworking recipes drop in dungeons (October 1 beta notes).
- XP: when one party member is far above the level of the enemy, nobody in the party gets XP, as in Classic Era (October 8 beta notes). Aggrend wrote that dungeon-cleaving to 60 "does not pass that muster and we need to hold firm".
Camp objects and the professions behind them are covered in our professions guide.
How do you find a dungeon group in WoW Forever?
In WoW Forever, the Group Finder (key I) lists the dungeons with their suggested levels, next to raids, quests and battlegrounds, and the LookingForGroup chat channel is still there. Meeting stones open a group window but do not summon, and the developers will not add summoning stones. Our LFG message generator writes your LFG or LFM message with your class, level and role.
- Group Finder: the beta files sort it into Dungeons, Raids, Quests & Zones, Battlegrounds and Custom. MassivelyOP reports a playstyle choice for dungeons, raids and PvP, and the October 8 beta notes added Discord Voice and an In-Game Voice Mode for Group Finder listings. Method gives it the key I.
- Chat: the LookingForGroup channel is in the beta client, for messages outside the Group Finder.
- Meeting stones: they open a group window but do not summon (MassivelyOP). The developers told TechRadar that summoning stones will not be a feature: "Easy, quick access to teleports shrink the world, and marginalize part of the identity of a class like Warlock" (Icy Veins).
- Layers: players you have grouped with are pushed into your layer (MassivelyOP), and since the October 1 beta notes, party leaders no longer change world instance when the group changes.
- Rulesets and factions: you only group with players of your ruleset and faction (Blizzard).
- Quest items: quest drops are shared out more predictably among grouped players (Josh Greenfield, via MassivelyOP).
Do dungeons count for the WoW Forever Legacy system?
Yes. WoW Forever's Legacy system has three dungeon challenges worth one account-wide Legacy point each: Novice Spelunker for every dungeon of the 15-25 bracket, Experienced Spelunker for 26-45 and Master Spelunker for 46-60, each dungeon counted at its final boss. The lists mix Classic dungeons and Forever's new ones, and the raids give three more points.
Our Legacy challenges guide lists the dungeons of each tier, and the Legacy planner adds up your points. Legacy points are shared by your whole account, each character can spend up to 16 of them at launch, and one adventure challenge asks for the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline (Blizzard).
Will WoW Forever get more dungeons?
Yes. Blizzard's WoW Forever roadmap adds two new dungeons in spring 2027 and two more in summer 2027, with the warning that content and timing are subject to change; their names are not announced. The developers also said: "We promise to consistently add new leveling dungeons and new leveling zones" (MassivelyOP). The first raids open on December 9, 2026.
Clay Stone told PC Gamer: "Our original pitch internally was: We'll do four new dungeons", a number that grew to six, then nine. The December 9 raids and the rest of the roadmap are in our raids guide.

How do you get into the City of Dalaran dungeon?
Through the sewers in the Alterac Mountains, after a faction attunement: An Alarming Request from Emissary Jacques in Southshore for the Alliance, Key to the City and Prison Break-In from Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill for the Horde (Blizzard).
