French, German or Spanish servers in WoW Forever: how to play with players of your language
Yuki4 min read
In short
WoW Forever has no French, German or other language servers: it is realmless, with one world per region and ruleset, Blizzard Support says. To meet players of your language, set the account-wide Preferred Online Language option, which changes once every 24 hours, and join a guild of your language. Cross-region play is not possible for now, so a European account plays with Europe.
Key points
- No language servers: you pick a region and a ruleset (Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, Roleplay-PvP; Hardcore later), not a realm (Blizzard Support).
- The tool is Preferred Online Language (Options > System > Languages and Social): account-wide, once every 24 hours.
- Blizzard has not published which languages the option offers as of October 25, 2026.
- Cross-region play is "not possible right now", developers said at PAX Aus; names are unique per region.
- Guilds, the LookingForGroup channel and translated group requests are the practical way to play together.
Are there French or German servers in WoW Forever?
No. WoW Forever is realmless: instead of picking a server, you pick a ruleset, Normal, PvP, Roleplaying or Roleplay-PvP at launch and Hardcore later, and "the game is still broken up by region", Blizzard Support says. As of October 25, 2026, Blizzard has announced no French, German, Spanish or other language realm. European players share the European region, whatever their language.
In practice, every European player of a ruleset is in the same large world. The October 21, 2026 stress test already ran on that regional hardware ("its proper regional hardware", Kaivax wrote), from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. CEST in Europe. How Blizzard spreads players inside a ruleset (layers) is not published; the rulesets themselves are compared in our realms and rulesets guide.
How do you play with players of your language?
Set the Preferred Online Language option: Options > System > Languages and Social. Blizzard says it applies to the whole account and can be changed once every 24 hours. According to Method.gg, it is one of the factors that place you in a layer, with your guild and the players you grouped with recently. Joining a guild of your language does the rest.
- Open the Game Menu (Escape) > Options > System > Languages and Social.
- Choose your language in Preferred Online Language: it covers every character of the account.
- Wait 24 hours before changing it again.
- Join a guild of your language and group with its members: Method.gg reports that guild and recent groups also count.
Which region should you play in, and can you play across regions?
Play in the region of your friends: names are unique per region and, as of October 25, 2026, cross-region play is "not possible right now", developers Holly Longdale and Clay Stone said at PAX Aus, citing technical and regulatory hurdles. Method.gg reports that you keep one World of Warcraft account per region as usual, so a player in Quebec and one in France only meet on the same region.
You also cannot group across rulesets, and Blizzard says a new ruleset means a new character: agree on the region and the ruleset with your friends before you create your characters. With a Forever pack, early name reservation opens in Europe on October 27, 2026 at 6 p.m. CET (1 p.m. PDT in North America), for up to three characters across all rulesets until November 3.
Where do you find players and guilds of your language?
In game, the LookingForGroup channel is the world channel for group requests (RechercheDeGroupe on a French client, according to the beta game tables), and General and Trade reach your zone or city. Outside the game, Blizzard's European forums have a section per language, and French players also recruit on the r/WoWFrance subreddit, where most posts since September were guild recruitment.
- Official forums: Blizzard's French-language forum has a World of Warcraft: Forever category; players asked how servers would be organized, with no Blizzard reply as of October 25, 2026.
- Group requests: our LFG message generator writes a ready-to-post request.
- Same faction: guilds and groups stay within one faction, and on the PvP ruleset all your characters must be of one faction (Blizzard has not said yet whether Roleplay-PvP works the same way).
How do you play with players who speak another language?
Write your group requests in their language. Our LFG generator writes a request in 16 languages, with the official dungeon and class names of each language from the game tables, so a Korean or German player reads it as their client shows it.
