WoW Forever weapon masters: where to learn each weapon, class by class
Yuki Requiem11 min read
In short
WoW Forever keeps weapon skills: Blizzard wrote on September 13, 2026 that weapon skill "still works as it always has", and players on its forums described learning weapons from weapon masters during the beta. Classic's data lists 8 of them, at 10 silver a weapon and 1 gold for polearms at level 20. Two changes on who uses what: rogues learn one-handed axes, and shamans use two-handed axes and maces without a talent.
Key points
- Blizzard keeps weapon skill: it "still works as it always has", but items give less of it per item (September 13, 2026).
- Blizzard's articles never name weapon masters; players on its forums described them in Undercity and Thunder Bluff in October 2026.
- The 8 weapon masters on this page and their lists are Classic data, to confirm on Forever: 1 in Stormwind, 2 in Ironforge, 1 in Darnassus, 2 in Orgrimmar, 1 in Thunder Bluff, 1 in Undercity.
- The Forever client gives each class the same weapons as Classic Era plus one-handed axes for rogues; shamans no longer need a talent for two-handed axes and maces.
- Classic's price is 10 silver per weapon and 1 gold for polearms at level 20. Blizzard has published no price; a player on its forums reported 10 silver.
Does WoW Forever still have weapon skills and weapon masters?
Yes, on all the evidence available on November 1, 2026. Blizzard wrote on September 13 that in WoW Forever "weapon skill still works as it always has", and on October 7 that rogues "can now learn to equip one-handed axes". Its articles do not name weapon masters and the game files hold no list of NPCs, but players on its forums describe learning weapons from them.
- Blizzard: weapon skill stays, and the starter guide of October 28, 2026 tells new players to check "weapon compatibility".
- Game files: the client of October 30, 2026 (build 1.60.1.70707) keeps every weapon skill of Classic, and adds a "Weapon Skills" category for the character pane that Classic Era's strings don't have. This is what the client contains, not an announcement.
- Players on Blizzard's forums, not Blizzard: "learn swords from the Weapon Master" in Undercity, during the beta (October 10, 2026); a hunter's "gun training from the weapon master" at Thunder Bluff (October 29, 2026).
We will check the list below in game after the launch on November 4, 2026. The beta stopped at level 30, so nothing here has been seen at level 60.
Which weapons can each class use in WoW Forever?
The Forever client of October 30, 2026 gives each class its list: warriors have 14 weapon types, hunters 12, rogues 9, paladins and shamans 7, druids 6, and priests, mages and warlocks 4. As in Classic, a weapon outside your class's list can't be learned. Compared with Classic Era's table, the only addition is one-handed axes for rogues.
| Class | One-handed | Two-handed | Ranged |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior | One-handedSwords, axes, maces, daggers, fist weapons | Two-handedSwords, axes, maces, polearms, staves | RangedBows, crossbows, guns, thrown |
| Hunter | One-handedSwords, axes, daggers, fist weapons | Two-handedSwords, axes, polearms, staves | RangedBows, crossbows, guns, thrown |
| Rogue | One-handedSwords, axes (new), maces, daggers, fist weapons | Two-handedNone | RangedBows, crossbows, guns, thrown |
| Paladin | One-handedSwords, axes, maces | Two-handedSwords, axes, maces, polearms | RangedNone |
| Shaman | One-handedAxes, maces, daggers, fist weapons | Two-handedAxes and maces (no talent needed now), staves | RangedNone |
| Druid | One-handedMaces, daggers, fist weapons | Two-handedMaces, polearms, staves | RangedNone |

| Mage | One-handedSwords, daggers | Two-handedStaves | RangedWands |
| Warlock | One-handedSwords, daggers | Two-handedStaves | RangedWands |
Every class also knows Unarmed. Dual Wield is not a weapon type: in Classic's data, class trainers teach it, at level 10 for rogues and level 20 for warriors and hunters, the same levels as the Forever client's table. Druid polearms are also in Classic Era's table, and Blizzard's druid article of September 30, 2026 does not mention them: check it in game.
Where are the weapon masters in WoW Forever?

Which weapon master teaches each weapon in WoW Forever?
In Classic's data, the Alliance learns swords and polearms in Stormwind, axes, maces and guns in Ironforge, and bows in Darnassus. The Horde learns swords and polearms in Undercity, axes, bows and thrown weapons in Orgrimmar, and maces and guns in Thunder Bluff. No weapon master teaches wands: priests, mages and warlocks know them from the start. All of this is to confirm on Forever.

How much does learning a weapon cost in WoW Forever?
Blizzard has published no price for WoW Forever. Classic's data has 10 silver per weapon, and 1 gold for polearms, which need level 20; the Forever client's table keeps that level 20 for polearms. A player on Blizzard's forums called it "10 silver at level 10" on October 25, 2026, which matches, but a player's post is no official price.
Plan the trip more than the price: in Classic's data, swords and polearms have one teacher per faction, in Stormwind and in Undercity. Our leveling guide covers the road to level 60, and our gold guide your first coins.
Which weapons do you know when you create a character?
It depends on class and race. The Forever client's table marks the weapon skills each class and race starts with: priests know one-handed maces and wands, mages staves and wands, warlocks daggers and wands, rogues daggers and thrown weapons, while warriors and hunters vary by race. On Classic Era, the same marks match Classic's starting lists in 327 of 327 cases.
| Class | Every race of the class | Depending on race |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Every race of the classNone | Depending on raceHuman: one-handed swords, axes, maces. Orc: one-handed swords and axes, two-handed axes. Dwarf: one-handed axes and maces, two-handed axes. Night Elf and Gnome: one-handed swords and maces, daggers. Undead: one-handed swords, two-handed swords, daggers. Tauren: one-handed axes and maces, two-handed maces. Troll: one-handed axes, daggers, thrown. Skyborne: one-handed swords and maces, two-handed swords and maces, bows, daggers, thrown |

Rogue axes need checking in game: the client puts rogues on the same rows as warriors, which would give one-handed axes at creation to Human, Orc, Dwarf and Troll rogues, while Blizzard only says rogues "can now learn" them. Skyborne start with more weapon types than the other races of their class; see our Skyborne guide.
What changes from Classic for weapons in WoW Forever?
Blizzard names four changes for WoW Forever: rogues learn one-handed axes, shamans get two-handed axes and maces without a talent, items give less weapon skill, and weapon specialization racials are not coming back. The weapon talents of warriors and rogues also merge. The client adds a Feral Combat skill for druids, which Blizzard has not presented.
- Rogues: "Rogues can now learn to equip one-handed axes" (Blizzard, October 7, 2026). The Combat talent Hack and Slash gives axes the same bonus as swords: see the rogue talents.
- Shamans: Two-Handed Axes and Maces is among the "Talents Moved to Baseline" (Blizzard, October 7, 2026). The client no longer marks these rows as a talent, and a player on the forums described them on September 29, 2026 as "baseline with training", so plan a visit to a weapon master. See the shaman talents.
- Items: "items with weapon skill offer less of it per item so they are not always the obvious best choice" (Blizzard, September 13, 2026).
- Racials: weapon specialization racials such as humans' Sword Specialization don't return, because "it is not healthy in the long run for future raid and dungeon loot tables to be evaluated through the lens of “required” weapon types" (Kaivax, October 26, 2026). Our races pages give each racial.
- Talents: the warrior's weapon specializations become Weaponmaster and the rogue's Hack and Slash (talents guide).
- Druids: a new skill, Feral Combat, known from level 1 in the client's table. Oilskin Leggings carry an "Increased Feral Combat" effect, and Icy Veins presumed on October 13, 2026 that it works like weapon skill. Blizzard has not presented it.
How does weapon skill work in WoW Forever?
Blizzard says weapon skill "still works as it always has". In Classic, each weapon type has its own skill, capped at 5 points per character level, which makes 300 at level 60, and it rises as you fight with that weapon. On the beta, a player reported 75 out of 90 with a two-handed axe at level 18 on October 15, 2026, which fits that cap.
- To hit: "Your attack rating affects your chance to hit a target, and is based on the weapon skill of the weapon you are currently wielding", says the client's text (build 1.60.1.70707).
- New display: the same strings add a "Weapon Skills" stat category with "Glancing Blow Chance", "Glancing Blow Penalty" and figures against an "Equal-Level Enemy" and "Against Raid Bosses". They are absent from Classic Era's strings.
- Intellect: its tooltip in the client still says it "Increases Weapon Skill improvement rate".
As in Classic, a new weapon type therefore starts low, and it takes time before it hits reliably. For choosing gear, Blizzard's own advice is to "check armor type, weapon compatibility, and the attributes useful to your class" (October 28, 2026), and our item database lists weapons by type.
